ABOUT US

ApprovedModems.org is a resource website dedicated to help people like you find networking equipment for different use-cases.

Whether you want to purchase a modem that’s compatible with your internet provider or want networking hardware (modems/routers/mesh system/extenders, etc) recommendations, you’ll find the most unbiased and honest opinions here.

Unlike other sites that create lists based on the descriptions available on Amazon, BestBuy, Walmart. I buy equipment, test everything for weeks before mentioning any product in my list.

I test every single equipment at various locations to come up with the list of modems/routers/mesh systems/extenders, etc, that are not just compatible or approved, but also provides high-class performance.

Although, testing a modem/router or any internet equipment for compatibility isn’t really needed, but that’s something we do to help our readers avoid buying bad quality modems or routers.

Why did I start Approved Modems?

Most of the cable internet providers in the US charge between $5-24/month for renting equipment (around $60-200 in 1 year) which makes buying a cable modem much better than renting it. However, to make money from rental, they make it difficult for customers to find a certified modem | router, with this website, I plan to add high quality networking equipment such as modems, routers, mesh systems, extenders, etc, suitable for different providers.

My Testing Process

  1. Checking for ISP compatibility: You surely wouldn’t want to buy a modem/router that’s not compatible with your ISP? To avoid you from buying the wrong model, we first go through the descriptions mentioned by the brands, we then test the top-rated models in various locations.
  2. The setup process: If you buy an approved modem, you could be able to set it up without the need of any technical support, but in a few cases you might have to spend time with the technical team for the setup process.
  3. Checking the speeds various modem/router combos provide at a particular location on a particular plan. We also note down each and everything in our internal software with all the data such as upload speeds, download speeds, number of devices connected, internet throttling, setup time, etc.
  4. Checking with various plans: Whether a modem is capable of working with high-speed plans and other tests to make sure that you don’t end up buying the one that isn’t capable to provide speeds for the internet plans.

The tests are conducted at multiple locations by different networking specialists, every single test we do is carried by 2-3 network specialists to avoid bias towards a particular manufacturer. Isn’t it something you see very often these days?
